It’s amazing on how many people work at call centers day and night. Today, my country Philippines has a lot of successful call centers. The call center business here is also continuously growing due to the low cost operational and labor costs. Philippines is considered as one of the countries that has a good accent in speaking English. A lot of people also want to work in call centers due to the high salary compared to being a normal employee in a business firm. Even a lot of my classmates in college ended up working in call centers.
But what interests me the most is on what system is going on call centers. Managing all those employees with different shifts, handling call times, and the number of hours each employee spent on answering calls. All those complex systems cannot be managed manually. I was thinking that they had a custom made software to handle all the time and call management of the employees, but there is a reliable and readily available hosted ACD to handle all those technical matters for the call center owners.
During my school days, I had a subject called Major Elective that discussed about VoIP. VoIP stands forVoice over Internet Protocol. During our class we really haven’t discussed anything valuable since we didn’t even have an IP Phone at our school. We did discuss though on how VoIP works, that from an analog voice signal will be converted to digital format, and more technical information on how the phone and the whole communication process works, but we never put it into practice. I’m really shocked on why my school didn’t have an IP phone even just for educational purposes, since IP Phones aren’t that expensive. We could have learn more from that subject if we had an IP phone. You may take a look on this website wholesale VOIP phones for prices of these phones.
It’s also amazing on how much you could save with calls abroad specially when you have a business involving clients from around the globe. The company I work for also has one, and it is indeed very useful compared to having a huge bill for international calls. When you have a medium to big business involving the internet, having a VoIP phone surely is must.
I’m amazed on how easy it is to install the Symfony PHP Framework on Dreamhost. I have been thinking of coding my portfolio site using PHP and this framework instead of Ruby due to the server’s loading time delay, since mod_rails is being turned off on a shared server. If you want to install Symfony, you can follow the tutorial found on the Dreamhost Wiki itself, it is very detailed and step by step. You won’t be lost nor are there complicated steps that only technical people would know.
No personal comments for Symfony yet, since I can’t try it out due to some difficulties. I’ll be posting here about my experiences after coding something using Symfony.
