Last night we had our weekly wallpaper with another twist, since my other co-designers were already bored with the storytelling wallpaper challenges. The catch for this challenge was to be given a material to work with. We may use any style, any concept as long as we’ll have the material on our output.

Each of us were given the chance to state on what the material to use; we had votation afterwards. The material that won and used on our wallpapers was:

An ampersand ( & )

Girls & Curls is the name of my entry, using the ampersand as the base of the character’s hair. Font used on this piece is Bickham Script Pro, a font pretty enough perfect to create some lovely curls. I also used the letter “e” of the font for her eyes and lashes. Hope you like it.

The overall product is a great example of minimalist expression. The beautiful lines, the composition of very few symbols hits any viewer. On that note it lacks the power to bring us in to the centre of the image. When using minimal element maybe a bit more contrast could enhance this, Perhaps maybe a slight glow to direct the eye towards the face first, then put in a bit more curls -maybe not-.

Awesome! Even with these eyes :) . Simple yet creative.

    Cool.

I’m just bothered with the eyes though. Have you tried not to mirror the eye?

Haha. Yeah, I’m also bothered by it too. Just noticed it now, the second time I looked at it.

Having time limit sure does have an impact on your work; like unnoticed details. But we aren’t allowed to edit these though, this is actually final…
